Red Cross announces new members of the Central and Southwest Oklahoma Chapter Board of Directors

Bruce Bunce of Norman, Dr. Hazel Lonewolf of Oklahoma City, Dr. Jason James of Lawton and Joseph Smith of Oklahoma City have been confirmed to the board of directors for Central & Southwest Oklahoma chapter of the Red Cross.

After retiring from the United States Air Force as Deputy Director/Operations Group Commander, Bunce is currently the Director of Operations & Services at Plexsys Interface Product. Bunce earned his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University. Additionally, he holds two master’s degrees, one from Oklahoma City University and another from Air University, Maxwell Airforce Base in Alabama. Bunce resides in Norman with his wife Trisha and their son, Tanner. He also has two bonus daughters, Gabe who lives in Boston and Riley who lives in OKC.

Dr. Lonewolf is the Chief Quality Officer for the Oklahoma City Indian Clinic where she has worked in various roles since starting as the Biostatistician in 2007. She earned her undergraduate BA degree in Political Science from Dartmouth College, and she has her graduate degrees from the University of Oklahoma where she earned a master’s and a Doctorate in Public health. 

Dr. Lonewolf is a member of the Indian Health Services’ IRB and has served as a National Examiner for the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program and as a State Examiner for the Oklahoma Quality Foundation and is currently and Examiner for the Texas Quality Foundation.  She is active in her son’s PTA and has volunteered for Big Brother/Big Sisters.  She is married to Carlos Johnson, and they have one son, Theodore who is a 3rd grader. 

Dr. James is currently the Chief Operations Officer for Lawton Public Schools where he oversees Child Nutrition, Transportation, Maintenance, and Facility Management. He has 22 years’ experience in Secondary Education serving in a variety of roles such as lead teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. In 2012 Dr. James was recognized as the State of Oklahoma’s Administrator of the Year. He is a member of Leadership Oklahoma Class 33 as well as a Leadership Oklahoma Ambassador, is a member of Oklahoma Association of School Administrators, Organization of Rural Oklahoma Schools and Southwest Oklahoma School Administrators.  

Smith is the Senior Program Manager for the Aviation Safety Office within the Federal Aviation Administration Agency. He also serves as co-chair for the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center Diversity Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility Council. As the Sr. Program Manager for the FAA, Smith’s primary responsibility is managing the administrative portfolio for over 90 facilities nationwide. He earned his undergraduate BS degree in Business management and his MBA in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.

Smith’s community involvement has let him to serve with the YMCA, Gospel Music Workshop of America, Boys & Girls Club and Northeast OKC Health Awareness Project, to name a few. He and his wife Coilette have three children and reside in OKC.

Bunce, Lonewolf, James and Smith will each serve a three-year term in their Red Cross roles. Other 2022-2023 board members include: Board Chair Alex Bagby, Vice-Chair Nathan Shirley, Brady Ayala, Andrea Fairbanks, Carlos Blanco, Jon Harrison, Brianne Kennemer, Krystal Martin, John Graham, Bryan Neal, Melanie Thompson-Stillinger and Gary Shutt.
